Ethics and Morality in the Professional Setting
Course Description

This video course will provide an overview of ethical theory and application that will help you establish and maintain hard earned business relationships.
After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Identify the fundamental theories of ethics and their respective weaknesses.
- Describe how to effectively apply a Code of Ethics to the current policies, rules and guidelines governing an organization that will ultimately serve the needs of the customer.
- Summarize the components of a well designed Code of Conduct, including standards, obligations and consequences for non-compliance.
- Create a Code of Conduct that embodies the ethics that accurately reflect the company core values and principles.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Being able to foresee project obstacles to avoid overcharging customers is an important ethical concern for contractors. Overseeing a project is one thing, being in control of it is another. Customers want to know that their contractor can stay within budget wherever possible and knowing how to effectively manage a project is the best way to ensure that happens.
This course focuses on the primary responsibilities of a project manager: managing project costs and time while completing the project to the expected degree of quality. This requires close attention to detail before beginning actual construction, as well as during the project. Taking proactive measures will help the project manager determine possible obstacles before they occur. This course will analyze all three primary areas. The student will learn how to implement proven methods to manage most effectively.
A 70% passing score on each assessment is required to move on to the next chapter. Students must answer 70% of the questions correctly in order to receive credit/certification for the course.
CONTRACTS, LIABILITIES AND RISK MANAGEMENT
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Negotiating fair contracts should be a big concern for you as a contractor and is just as important for your customers. Both parties understanding and defining the scope of the work and project expectations is an excellent way to ensure customer satisfaction while maintaining your bottom line.
This course explains the principles of contract law and the important elements of a home building and remodeling contract. The difference between various contracts used in the residential construction industry is also described. Requirements and types of insurance are also covered in this course, as well as the details of Workers Compensation.
A 70% passing score on each assessment is required to move on to the next chapter. Students must answer 70% of the questions correctly in order to receive credit/certification for the course.

The estimator who can visualize the project and accurately determine its costs will become one of the most important persons in any construction company. This course will help you gain confidence throughout the bidding process, knowing you have the tools and knowledge necessary to put forth stellar bids for your future clients while not under-bidding the value of your work just to secure the job.
This course is an introduction to the construction estimating process. The following material will explain the methods of construction delivery, different types of estimates, and the tools needed by the estimator to tender a bid. Being able to read and understand blueprints is also integral to the estimating process. Knowing how to apply and itemize costs for specific activities and materials, based on a set of plans and related professional resources, is key.
Aging in Place – Eliminating Pitfalls

Like planning for retirement, many young people do not consider what they will need from their home as they age.
It is possible to remain at home as physical and / or mental deterioration makes doing so more challenging. Given the amount of research that preceded establishing design standards to accommodate the handicapped, new structures can be designed which are far more user friendly to the elderly. Changes to existing homes can also be made in incremental steps as needs arise, just not as efficiently as doing so from scratch.
The knowledge and technology to enable our elders to stay at home are well established. All that is lacking are finances to do so, the time to do so, the will to do so and wide-spread dissemination of knowledge on how to do so.
As a contractor, one way you can add value and help your customers see the big picture is by pointing out things they can incorporate into their home design NOW that will save them heartaches & headaches later in life while increasing the longevity of their home.
